Simple wine night ideas, an easy menu, and tips on what made this girls night actually work.
So I Finally Hosted a Wine Night...
So I finally hosted that wine tasting night at home that has been on my to do list for... at least six months.
I have been mentally planning a girls night to do some damage to my wine stash but never followed through. You know how it goes, great ideas, no execution.
But this time? I committed.
The idea of wine, games, conversation and nibbles sounded like a great time, and thankfully it turned out even better than I thought.

What Actually Worked (Wine, Food, and Keeping it...Kinda...Simple)
As someone who tends to overthink everything, I tried something different this time by setting the date first and figuring out the rest later.
Once the date was locked, I sent the invites immediately. Stopped overthinking and no space to back out. Using eventbrite invites as my accountability tool actually works.
Thankfully, the wine was easy. I've been stockpiling wine from a wine club, so I had a pretty diverse lineup for us to try.
What I did care about? The glasses. Since the wine was handled, I focused on getting cute wine glasses to showcase it. I went with these wine glasses but if you are a stemless girl these are great and I love these colored ones which are so pretty and and fun.
If real glasses aren't your vibe, these faceted stemmed glasses as well as these stemless options work great too.
Once I locked in the glasses, everything else came together pretty easily.
I pulled out a mix of trays, plates, and bowls I already had, some new buys, added some florals, and suddenly it looked like I planned this way more than I did.
For the food setup, I used a mix of boards, including this charcuterie board, but I actually loved mixing different pieces together. It made everything feel a little more effortless and less… staged.
I kept it easy but intentional.
Instead of one big board, I made a few smaller trays with different cheese pairings so each one felt like its own little tasting moment.
It looked good, it made sense, and more importantly— everyone loved it (and even took leftovers home).
Which is always the goal.
What Made it Fun (And Not Feel Like a Whole Production)
Now that everything looked good, I wanted to make sure it didn’t feel stiff or overly planned.
Especially since I invited a mix of friends who didn’t all know each other.
The Unexpected Hit: Wine Charm Station
This was easily one of my favorite parts of the night.
I set up a little wine charm station using this set, but there are also options like these and these if you want something a little different.
And let me tell you… grown women making charms for their wine glasses? Immediate laughter.
It low-key turned into a throwback moment—like making charm bracelets but with opinions this time. Everyone got oddly specific about what they wanted on their glass, and it naturally sparked conversation.
No awkward introductions needed.
Games = Instant Ice Breaker
I also added a couple of wine-related games to keep things interactive throughout the night. Spreading them out worked perfectly because anytime the conversation slowed down, the games picked it right back up with plenty of laughs.
Nothing complicated, just enough to get people talking, laughing, and lightly debating their wine opinions.
I made a few myself, but if you’re not in the mood to DIY, something like this wine game works just as well.

What I’d Do Again
Honestly, most of it.
Setting the date first (key move)
Keeping the setup simple
Adding one or two interactive elements instead of overplanning
If anything, this night confirmed that it doesn’t take much to create a good experience.
Just a little intention and actually following through.
What I Used (If You’re Curious)*
If you’re putting something together yourself, these are a few of the things I used or would grab again.
Wine glasses: these pulled the while table together
Stemless option: these stemless options are so chic
Colored glasses: adding a pop of color with glasses is so fun!
Charcuterie board: easy setup, looked like I tried way harder than I did
Wine charm kit: unexpected hit of the night!
Wine game: easy way to keep the laughs going all night

Final Thought
I think we overcomplicate hosting ( at least I do) way more than we need to.
This wasn’t elaborate. It wasn’t perfect. But it was fun, and that’s what people remember.
And I’d do it again, just with less overthinking and kept as simple.
